The 2008-2009 flu season will begin in October and run through April or May. Every year, the flu and its complications affect thousands of individuals nationwide. The disease kills 36,000 people and hospitalizes 200,000 annually. While the flu does affect young children, adults aged 50 years and above are the primary group affected by the disease.
